Dr Atkins Weight Loss Diet Dr Atkins weight loss diet is world famous. It is known as the Atkins Diet, or the Atkins Diet Revolution. The Atkins diet is famed because of the huge amounts of weight it allows a person to lose in such a short period of time, and has being labelled by some as a miracle diet. Far from being a miracle, it certainly is a revolution. The Atkins diet works by not targeting volumes of consumption like most diets, but by directly changing the body's metabolism to utilise fat for energy instead of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the chief energy source of the body, which are converted to glucose (blood sugar) by the metabolism. Carbohydrates are the perfect fuel for the body, and are broken down quickly and their energy released into the system quickly. Whilst this is just what you want from you're food, for an obese person this can begin to work against you, by thwarting any effort to lose weight whilst such high amounts of carbohydrates are constantly being taken in. By lowering carbohydrate intake, Dr. Atkins noticed the body began to metabolise fat cells (which are basically stored glucose, only to be burned as a secondary fuel source). Finally, Dr. Atkins tweaked his diet until it included everything a good diet should: Dramatic weight loss: By getting the body to metabolise fat, you are attacking the fat directly which is just what you want to happen in a good diet. No hunger pains or cravings: Dr. Atkins diet allows a person to continue to eat a satisfying amount of food to quell hunger cravings and satisfy appetite whilst still continuing to lose weight. This is because the right foods are being eaten, whilst the wrong foods (carbohydrates) are being avoided. Retaining muscle mass: Many diets not only shift fat, but make a person lose muscle mass as well. This is a negative side effect, but with the Atkins diet this doesn't happen. By consuming large amounts of proteins, and certain amounts of saturated fats, muscle mass is retained whilst the fat slips away. |
