Atkins Diet Info

The Atkins Diet is a tried, tested diet and proven to be safe and extremely effective. In fact, the Atkins Diet was started by Dr. Robert C Atkins in the early 1960's and followed by the Dr. himself until he died at the good age of 73 of unrelated cardiac problems. This shows the diet to be safe and effective long-term.

There are many sceptics when it comes to the Atkins diet, but the truth is, many people who follow it do not follow it as it was intended and haven't read enough Atkins diet info, but rather pick which bits of the diet suit them best. This is not what Dr. Robert C Atkins intended, and is an unsafe way of dieting.

The proper Atkins diet protocol calls for high amounts of saturated fats and protein to be consumed, but trans-fats avoided and carbohydrates avoided. Carbohydrates (sugars and starches) are the biggest reason besides overeating why people become obese. Carbohydrates are broken down by the body into a sugar called Glucose, which is the body's fuel. When the body doesn't use this fuel (which in the case of most obese people is the reason they became fat), it is stored within the body as fat. It is extremely difficult to lose weight without cutting down on carbohydrates – but the Atkins diet has made this easy.

By eating high amounts of protein (such as meat), and low amounts of carbohydrates you're body retains its muscle mass and begins to metabolise fat for energy. This is precisely what you want when losing weight, which is why the Atkins diet is such a popular diet. Check out the rest of the site for more Atkins diet info.
