Atkins Diet Foods

The Atkins diet is a low carbohydrate and high protein diet created by Dr. Robert C Atkins in the early 1960's. It is extremely important that you learn which foods belong to which food groups before beginning the Atkins diet, as the success of you're diet will depend directly upon this factor.

When on the Atkins diet foods which contain high amounts of carbohydrates such as the following should be avoided or consumed very sparingly:

  • Potatoes
  • Chips
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Cabbage and other leafy green vegetables
  • Sweet foods such as cake and chocolate
  • Sugar

All of the above foods cause varying fluctuations in blood sugar levels, some, such as sugar or sweet foods containing sugar cause almost instant sugar highs, and are the biggest culprits for putting on fat.

Atkins diet foods which should be consumed in fairly high quantity are ones which contain fats and proteins. Below will show you in which foods these nutrients are obtained:

Fats: Fried foods, particularly ones containing saturated fats and also the fat on meat.

Proteins: Eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, beef, pork, milk.

Depending upon which phase of the Atkins diet you are on, you will need to alter you're intake of the above foods accordingly. Please view the rest of the site for more information on Atkins diet foods.
