Atkins Diet Overview

The Atkins Diet has been trumpeted as one of the most revolutionary ideas in dieting, offering not only superb weight loss but also claims of been extremely beneficial to a person's health by reducing the risk of coronary and other health issues.

The Atkins Diet works by decreasing carbohydrate intake and increasing fat and protein intake. The Atkins Diet works by playing on the body's need for glucose. Carbohydrates are the body's main supply of glucose, and by curtailing the input of carbohydrates the body increases its metabolic rate to better refine the limited carbohydrates which have been consumed, as well as to metabolise fats to turn them into glucose, causing a person to lose weight.

Who may find the Atkins Diet useful?

Obese people or people who aren't able to exercise sufficiently to burn off fat, as well as people who struggle immensely in dealing with food cravings may find the Atkins Diet a suitable diet for them. The Atkins Diet is so popular because it allows a person to continue eating the same volume of food, or perhaps even more, whilst still losing weight. This satisfies a person's food craving (which will inevitably reduce gradually as the persons stomach shrinks) whilst at the same time allowing them to lose weight.

Some disorders such as hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) or hypothyroidism (low thyroid activity) can cause dramatic weight gain and with it the slew of health issues which accompany obesity. For this reason many use the Atkins Diet which as a system of losing weight, has proven to be one of the most effective diets.

Coronary issues can also be helped by limiting carbohydrate intake as the Atkins diet does, and helps to control blood sugars as well as curtail high blood pressure.
